Third Rail System for iPhone 4 provides power only when you need it

Third Rail system for iPhone 4 width=

Do you sometimes need extra battery life with your iPhone 4 and sometimes just need a case? The Third Rail System is the answer. It’s a slim iPhone 4 case that allows an external batter to be attached to the backside of your iPhone 4 when you need it. That’s the key; unlike other battery cases that add bulk by incorporating the battery into the case, the Third Rail System allows you to take it off whenever you like. The system is available now for $89.99.

Here’s how it works: Just slide your iPhone 4 inside the Third Rail case. It connects to your iPhone 4 via the dock port. This allows for charging and syncing. Syncing (and charging of the iPhone and/or Third Rail battery) will have to happen with the included micro USB cable instead of a standard dock cable, though. Don’t bother connecting the external battery to the back of the case until you actually need it. Without it attached, the Third Rail case is a slim iPhone 4 case like many others on the market. With the battery attached, it becomes a bit clunky, but you do get extra battery life, and you don’t have to keep it on at all time.

In addition to charging your iPhone 4, the Smart Battery can be used to charge most anything that connects via USB. Included with the Smart Battery is a USB Adapter that lets you use the battery for your other gadgets, making it a multipurpose accessory. And since the battery is external to the Slim Case, down the road, you’ll be able to buy cases for different devices, but you won’t need to buy a new battery.

The Third Rail System for iPhone 4 supports all models of iPhone 4 and is an official “Made for iPhone 4” product. You can order one now for $89.99 from the Third Rail site.
