Apple Stores reveal interactive iPads and iPhone app

As was reported on Appletell, Apple Computer was planning to use iPads as an interactive display instead of paper signs in what was called Apple Store 2.0. News has now come in from Australia and Japan that these rumors were true, along with details of other changes that are designed to make shopping at Apple Stores a better experience.

An unexpected change that’s reported by jack112006 at MacTalk from Australia are large acrylic blocks with the product’s name on it which are easy to spot. However, the biggest draw are the interactive iPads with detailed information about each product and the ability to call for a specialist if you have further questions. It even tells you how many people are ahead of you in line, which is a lot better than wandering around looking for a specialist who doesn’t look busy. jack112006 also says the layout of his Apple Store has changed; whereas before it only had one or two personal set-up tables, “... about 35% of the store is devoted to setup, and it really alters the feel of the store. It makes it feel like a much more community-centered space, contrary to the showroom feel of before.”

Apple Store app v1.3

The Apple Store app also got updated to 1.3 which enables you to quickly see how many are in line for a specialist, when there’s a free time for a Genius appointment, and how long you have until the next workshop and what it will cover. You can also customize and buy Apple products from within the app as well. Unfortunately it’s written for the iPhone; you can use it on an iPad, but it doesn’t look quite as good.

Apple Computer also sent a motivational letter to their employees along with the changes, encouraging them to always look to tomorrow and beyond.
