How to use your iSight to record video in iMovie

Using your iSight web camera is a great way to record video into iMovie. You may not remember this, but there were two different types of iSight web cameras: internal and the discontinued external. The internal cameras are built into most Macbooks, iMacs and Cinema Displays. The external models can still be found at pretty hefty prices, but can then be added to the older machines or to machines without the camera built in.

If You Have an External iSight Camera

Begin by plugging your iSight into your Mac. This is done with your USB cord. Your Mac should be able to recognize this native hardware without a problem.Open iMovie be either double clicking on the icon on your dock or in your applications folder. In iMovie, click on the icon that looks like a video camera, this will open your recording options.Click on the words “Record with iSight”.
